Organizing principles

The organizing principle of FIT is to build local leadership within the Jane – Finch community to address the impacts of poverty, faced by marginalized and low-income residents of the community.

Our service rich community is trapped in a unique cycle of poverty whereby there is a response to the by products of community issues, without addressing the root causes of residents unmet needs. This culture of community work leaves a marginalized role for the community resident and creates a “culture” of dependency which dis-empowers residents and impedes real systemic change organized by the residents for the residents. This reality was the basis for the formation for FIT and is the foundation for our commitment to develop and empower residents that will lead communities for systemic change.
