Who We Are

Friends In Trouble (FIT) is a nonprofit organization, that was birthed from within the Jane and Finch community, by a group of residents who believed in the power of their lived experiences, to affect and challenge the impact of poverty in their lives. FIT works with individuals and families living with and facing the impacts of poverty and oppression, to act as a vehicle of empowerment by which individuals are able to access resources, create opportunities and lead processes that impact them.

Our focus is to address the ills that stem from poverty, by organizing and developing community leaders, to act collectively in challenging policies, and processes that enforce create poverty/oppression. We seek to deliver unique alternative programming that reflects the needs, interest and assets of our community.

FIT seeks to empower people in the Jane-Finch Community and the city at large. As an organization we are committed to providing a platform for individuals to develop their identities, find their voices and tell their own stories.

Each individual has the capacity to make meaningful change within their lives, our organization seeks to develop and nurture the community narrative and empower residents of Jane and Finch to be able to address systemic issues through their lived experiences, which will inspire and impact the development and betterment of our communities.
